The MotherRoots approach is based on the idea that wellbeing begins at the root.
Just like trees need strong roots to grow, we also need a strong foundation in our bodies, our emotions, and our sense of self.
Sinéad’s personal journey with breathwork
My personal journey with breathwork began in 2020, initially as a pathway to self-healing. At the time, my anxiety was at an all-time high, and my meditation practice felt challenged due to a constantly racing mind. Breathwork offered something different; it brought me out of my head and gently back into my body.
I was first introduced to this work through Ronan O’Brien (Breathwave Ireland), whose guidance supported me in reconnecting with myself in a deeply grounded way – a relationship and practice I continue to value today. I also explored somatic practices in nature with Níall Ó Murchú and Josie (Breathe with Níall), where I experienced the powerful release and regulation that the body holds through breath and movement.
As I moved into motherhood in 2024, my connection to the breath deepened even further. In 2025, I completed my breathwork teacher training with Níall Ó Murchú, allowing me to begin holding space for others on their own journey.
The power of the breath continues to amaze me, it is both simple and profound, a constant anchor back to self.
What is breathwork (Intentional breathing)
Harnessing the connection between the body, breath and mind has been used since ancient times. We can enhance the way we live and perform by learning to control our breathing. This improves overall well-being and effectiveness at daily activities.
The breath is one of the most powerful tools we have for healing and regulation, and is a tool we can access at any time… and the best part is it’s free.
If you take a moment now, a momentary pause from the computer screen…
- Breathe In for 4 seconds,
- Hold for 4 seconds
- Breathe Out for 4 seconds
- Hold for 4 seconds
You have just completed a simple cycle of intentional breathing. All it took was 16-seconds to create space in your mind.
What happens in a breathwork session
Breathwork sessions create a safe space for the body to release stress, calm the nervous system, and reconnect with deeper emotions and intuition.
Each session is slightly different and tailored to the setting, but sessions usually include:
- A welcoming grounding meditation
- Connecting to the body
- Guided breathing techniques
- Nervous system regulation
- Emotional release
- Reflection and integration practices
Breathwork can support people experiencing stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or those simply wishing to reconnect with themselves.
